Teater Tun Siti Hasmah and Lisa Surihani

This is the week of Premium Beautiful performance bonus?? Yayyy!! 

So,my sister and i decided to bring Mummy to watch theater at Istana Budaya. Last time Mummy was so interested to watch Natrah but we missed it. So this time we planned that we should go and see something from Erma too .

Tribute Teater Tun Siti Hasmah: Dari Hati Seorang Perempuan, directed by Erma Fatima

Often times we heard, behind every great man is a great woman. In the case of our former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathi, it is his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah, who has been by his side, going through the ups and downs of his career.  

The setting of the play, started from Siti Hasmah earliest days in University of Malaya, Singapore and had hiccups in her studies. (Little that i know she was not the "ulat buku" type during her varsity life!) The play also revealed how and when Tun M proposed to her. How her family first reactions to her relationship with the man of her choice?Hmm go figure!

The play later show us her early life as the second woman doctor in the country and her challenges in changing the community's traditional attitude towards health and her role as the First Lady of Malaysia.


Lisa portrayed the younger version of Dr Siti Hasmah while Eja took over when she becomes the PM's wife. Lisa Surihani was so sweet, and funny too. I never knew she can dance. Yes,this play is something like musical but it is not entirely musical. There were dancing and singing going on. Eja played dedicated-loving-sometimes devastated wife.  
The role of Tun M played by Isma Danial while Nazim Othman played the young Tun M. When Isma Danial talks, i can recalled Tun M instantly hehe. Nazim Othman was not bad either, he rocked the utara accent!

There were no touchy feely but the script kinda grasped the whole emotions. 

Kau adalah penawar bagi setiap kesakitanku - Tun M, Teater Tun Siti Hasmah. 

Bermadu dengan wanita akan pahit, tapi aku bermadu dengan rakyat sungguh nikmatnya. - Tun Siti Hasmah.


I love the dance routines. The supporting roles were amazing too. Wardrobe and costumes follow closely to the timeline and setting of 70s and 80s.  They were lip-sync during the singing scene. i know that it was not really a musical theater but it would be a bonus if they were actually singing. Definitely will attract more crowd, ramai nak tengok lisa surihani nyanyi kottt! There was also cameo appearance from Erma Fatimah. She was hilarious! :)


I think the inspiration behind the script was the unique character of Tun Siti Hasmah herself. Most of us literally grew up with her, having seen her on television and heard about her most of our life (my 25 years of life), how she always beside Tun, yet she is very elusive and mysterious?

I did not know much about her until this theater. But i think there are some details that was not revealed other than her life as the First Lady. For example, how she educate her kids, her life as an university lecturer. I wanted to more about her as her.

 nazim was soo friendly,  trying to pronounce 3 of us full's name. and asking what is our male sibling signature front name. we were interviewed by him la plak haha! 
nak je tanya bangunan UKM berhantu ye bang? :P
