Paragliding at Bukit Jugra

Paragliding was one of my bucket lists

My sisters and I went paragliding recently, and yes, it is as thrilling as it look,or even more! I am actually scared of height. Few years back, i cried while doing abseiling! But weird is, i love love love  paragliding so much that I am now saving money to get the license. InsyaAllah.

Paragliding is a recreational activity, considered an extreme sport, practiced by using an engine-free aircraft. The aircraft used in paragliding are extremely simple and they are often called just "wings". A typical paraglider consists of a fabric wing and a harness. In paragliding you are launching the aircraft by foot - where they run and jump of the cliff to start flying. People often confused paragliding with skydiving. You can read more HERE for the differences.

It was Saturday, 2.3.2013. I came all the way from lapor diri at Johor State Legal Advisers Chambers. We had planned this since early January with bunch of friends, who are now become our regular outdoor sport friends :)

We arrived at Bukit Jugra, Banting on a beautiful clear afternoon after  25 mins drive from Putrajaya. Bukit Jugra is one of the famous spot for paragliding, another two is Bahau and Sendayan Hill. Bukit Jugra is situated near the sea, and very green. From the top of the hill we can see the Straits of Melaka, Carey Island and ships from/to Port Klang.

When my turn is up, I was told to fly with Uncle Rahman. Uncle Rahman trained his own son, since small. His eldest song aged 18 was one of the pilot that day and his youngest aged 9, is the youngest pilot in Malaysia. Before flying, I was told to buckle into a harness. Harness (look like a long bag pack) offers support in both the standing and sitting positions. Most harnesses have foam or airbag protectors underneath the seat and the back.

While Uncle buckled ourself to the wings, he explained a bit about paragliding and we cited some doa (prayers) . The wind blows and the time has come, Uncle told me to start walking, then he said "Lari laju, jangan takut, awak tengok laut tu". So I ran towards the cliff I jumped. Deep down i said to myself "Ya Allah, jangan lah mati hari ni"

It was a very smooth takeoff! I was floating in the air weeeeee :) And it wasn't long before we were high above the trees, soaring across the river like a bird. It was a truly amazing experience, quiet, peaceful and breathtaking!

While up there, Uncle asked whether i was scared, truth is i was not! I feel safe and secure.

As we were flying, Uncle told me there were thermals going on. Only experienced pilot know how to search and feel thermals (thermals enable the wings to fly higher) He asked me " nak pergi atas lagi tak?" I said, yes :) So, uncle rahman get into the core of the thermal and few seconds later, slowly we went higher and higher :)

It was an amazing 15 minutes enjoying the wind, the scenery and i realised how thankful i am to be alive and have the chance to see the beauty that Allah has created.

When it was time for the landing. Unce told me to run as soon as our feet touched the ground.  It was an easy landing! Alhamdullilah.

It was such an amazing experience for me. I trully recommended this to all of you.

i just cant describe how spectacular this experience! so i end with quote from Leonardo da Vinci to sum up what i feel

"For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return"
